Conservancy Safaris attended the book launch of renowned conservationist, Garth Owen-Smith, in Windhoek on 23 March 2011.




Garth was a co-founder of IRDNC (Integrated Rural Development and Nature Conservation) and one of its co-directors. “An Arid Eden” is his personal account of conservation in Kaokoland. The book-launch coincided with the stepping down of Garth Owen-Smith and Dr Margaret Jacobsohn as directors of IRDNC and their handing over the reins to a new team.


Himba ladyThe event was attended by the “who is who in conservation” as well as by the ambassador from the European Union, the British High Commissioner and the Minister for Environment & Tourism, the Honorable Minister Nandi-Ndaitwah.   In her speech, the Minister paid tribute to their combined 60 years contribution towards conservation in Namibia.


In collaboration with Garth Owen-Smith, Conservancy Safaris has created and launched a new product,  An Arid Eden, which offers guests the unique and not to be missed opportunity to explore the remote north-western Namibia with this living legend and to get a first-hand account of his experiences in this dramatic wilderness and the challenges facing the people living with wildlife.


The first 10 paid-up clients will receive a signed copy of his new book.
