On 24 June 2010 Kunene Conservancy Safaris had its first Board meeting at Orupembe.

The meeting took place under a shady mopane tree at Marble Camp site nestled between the upper Khumib River and rugged hills.

Kunene Conservancy Safaris is governed by a Trust consisting of five well-known Namibians, the investor who provided the loan for the start-up capital and representatives from each of the five conservancies owning the company.

On the agenda were report backs covering the past months, determining of board/trustee roles and responsibilities and also discussions for future strategies.

The concept of Kunene Conservancy Safaris is unique in that it is owned by the conservancies, governed by a trust and all profits revert back to the owner conservancies who participate in policy making decisions. A key issue was identifying a village where guests could be hosted overnight – one of the special experiences that Kunene Conservancy Safaris will be offering those who wish to be immersed in Himba life.
