SURPRISE ELEPHANT TRACKS

06/06/2010
  • Water in a semi-arid area is probably the most treasured natural resource.   This certainly applies to Sanitatas Conservancy, where the one natural spring is the life source for its people, livestock and wildlife.  As time progressed, livestock increased and much of the wildlife dispersed in search of other waterholes.

  • What a surprise for KCS – travelling through the picturesque Khumib and Sanitatas areas – the sudden emergence of fresh elephant tracks, large and small, etched into the dust of the dirt road – indelible proof that after many years, a breeding herd has finally found its way back.  This area has enormous potential for wildlife if alternative water resources can be found.
